An early train travelling from Cardiff to Holyhead with 150 passengers on board had to be evacuated after an engine fire.
The 0720 service stopped at Abergavenny, Mounmouthshire as a "precaution" after the crew reported smoke in the train cab.
Arriva Trains Wales said the evacuation was purely on safety grounds and no-one was in danger.
Alternative arrangements were made for passengers to travel onwards.
The rail company apologised for any delay.
"Train crew reported smoke in the cab and it was decided, as a precautionary measure, to terminate and evacuate the train at Abergavenny," said an Arriva Trains Wales spokesperson.
The fire service was called to deal with the incident, and the affected train has now been moved, she said.
"There were a few delays and we apologised for that," she added.
Alternative road transport was organised for those affected.
