YSR’s last journey begins, body taken to stadium
The last journey of Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy began in Hyderabad on Friday morning. His body was taken from his camp office in Begumpet to the Lal Bahadur Shastri stadium where it will be kept for the public to pay their last respects. The body was carried in an Army truck and was accompanied by the late leader’s son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and senior party leaders.Ironically it was in this very stadium that YSR was accorded a tumultuous welcome just over 100 days ago when he assumed office for the second term as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
The armed forces performed the last salute before the body was taken to the stadium. The body will be taken later in the evening to his home town of Pulivndula in Kadapa for the last rites.
Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani paid homage to YSR who died in a chopper crash on Wednesday.
Others who paid their respects included Defence Minister A K Antony, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit.
